The federal government has unveiled an ambitious nationwide housing expansion plan driven by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), as part of a sweeping strategy to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit and stimulate economic growth.
This emerged during the commissioning of the new FHA Mall in Gwarinpa, Abuja, where the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), George Akume, and FHA managing director, Oyetunde Ojo, highlighted a coordinated federal push to scale up housing delivery, revive abandoned projects and unlock new investment and job opportunities nationwide.
Akume declared that housing remains a top priority of the present administration of President Tinubu, stressing that the creation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and sustained government backing for FHA were deliberate steps to ensure Nigerians have access to livable and affordable homes.

He commended the Authority’s recent transformation into a “performing agency,” noting that its renewed drive across the country to acquire land for housing development demonstrates a practical commitment to solving the nation’s housing challenge.
According to the SGF, government would continue to provide the enabling environment needed for FHA to expand its projects, urging the agency to replicate modern commercial and residential amenities in estates nationwide to enhance comfort, economic activity and urban development.
The former Benue state governor, reiterated that the economic reforms under the present administration were beginning to yield positive results, explaining that sustained investment in housing and infrastructure would further accelerate growth, urban renewal and social stability.
Earlier in his remarks, the managing director of the FHA revealed that within two years, the Authority had visited 28 states to secure land allocations in order to assist in driving the foundation for a sustainable housing development within the country.
“With land secured, we have commenced the construction process of Renewed Hope Estates in 17 states in the first phase after concluding procurement processes,” he said, adding that ground-breaking had already taken place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Kaduna State.
He disclosed that the Authority is working to complete 350 housing units in Bwari, Abuja within the first quarter of 2026, alongside other recently delivered projects including 100 housing units in Ajoda, Ibadan; the Express View Estate in Lugbe; a 1.3-kilometre road in Guzape; and the corporate headquarters of FHA Mortgage Bank in Gwarinpa.
The FHA boss explained that beyond housing delivery, the Agency is building integrated estates that include commercial and service infrastructure to create conducive environments for businesses and residents, boost internally generated revenue and deepen urban economic ecosystems.
Ojo added that digitalisation of property files and interconnection of zonal offices to headquarters for real-time operations were part of reforms aimed at modernising FHA and ensuring faster, more secure and transparent service delivery to allottees nationwide.
While appreciating the Ministry as well as the minister of housing and urban development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa for providing support and guidance to the Authority, emphasised that the Authority’s renewed expansion under the ministry of housing would generate extensive direct and indirect employment across construction and allied value chains, positioning housing development as a major economic driver.
