The Kogi State Government has directed all primary and secondary schools in the state to reopen on Monday, February 23, 2026, with immediate effect.
The Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Matthew Eri Salami, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lokoja, the state capital.
I am directed to inform you that schools are to resume on Monday 23rd of February, 2026 after the emergency mid-term break,” the statement read, adding that further information would be communicated later.
The state government had earlier ordered a two-week temporary closure of schools from February 4 as a preventive measure to safeguard lives and property.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, had described the decision as purely precautionary and based on credible intelligence, stressing that it was taken to protect pupils, students and teachers.
Following the initial directive, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in the state had instructed its members to comply with the adjustment.
With the latest announcement, schools across the state are expected to resume academic activities on Monday.
