Six members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Rivers State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move announced on the floor of the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
During plenary, Speaker of the House Abbas Tajudeen read the lawmakers’ letters of defection to their new party before members of the chamber.
The defecting lawmakers are:
- Dumnamere Dekor — representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency,
- Solomon Bob — Abua/Odual and Ahoada East Federal Constituency,
- Hart Cyril Godwin — Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency,
- Victor Obuzor — Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema/Ndoni Federal Constituency,
- Blessing Amadi — Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency, and
- Felix Nweke — Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai Federal Constituency.
In their letters, the lawmakers cited persistent divisions and an unresolved leadership crisis in the PDP as motivating factors for their decision to switch allegiance. They also stated that they believe the APC — led nationally by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — offers a stronger platform to pursue their legislative goals and better serve their constituents.
Their defection follows that of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who earlier in December left the PDP to join the APC, deepening a major political realignment in the state.
Political analysts say this latest wave of defections further strengthens the APC’s majority in the House of Representatives and underscores growing instability within the PDP as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
