Soludo Thanks Tinubu for Commitment to Democracy

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the president’s unwavering commitment to democracy and credible elections in Nigeria.

Soludo made the remarks on Sunday in Awka during his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of the November 8 Anambra governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor, who secured a second term alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, said the outcome of the poll reflected the will of the people and marked a new milestone in the state’s democratic journey.

“He has demonstrated very firmly his commitment to guaranteeing a free and fair election.”

Governor Soludo also lauded the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, and his team for conducting what he described as the most transparent and efficient election in the state’s history since the introduction of electoral technology.

He praised the Commission for its professionalism and neutrality throughout the process, noting that the smooth conduct of the election renewed citizens’ faith in Nigeria’s electoral reforms.

Addressing supporters, Soludo thanked the people of Anambra — popularly called Ndi Anambra — for turning out in large numbers and for renewing their confidence in his leadership.

Soludo noted that voter engagement reached record levels in the election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s determination to shape their future through the ballot.

According to INEC figures, about 22 percent of registered voters participated in the poll — a significant improvement over previous elections. Soludo said the turnout was unprecedented and signaled renewed public trust in the electoral process.

Governor Soludo’s re-election marks only the third time an incumbent governor has been returned to office in Anambra since 1999. He reportedly won with an emphatic 73 percent of the votes cast.

Political observers described the peaceful conduct of the poll as a positive sign for Nigeria’s democratic development and a testament to the federal government’s non-interference in state elections.

Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to delivering inclusive development, consolidating ongoing reforms, and fostering unity among the people of Anambra.
