US Art Envoy: Music as a Catalyst for Nigeria’s Growth

The United States Art Envoy has utilized music to promote collaboration and economic prospects within Nigeria’s creative sector, valued at N15 billion.

This development coincides with the enthusiasm expressed by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria regarding the successful visit of the U.S. Arts Envoy, Pipeline Vocal Project, to Lagos and Abuja.

In a statement released on Friday by Aisha Gambari, a media specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, U.S. Consul General Rick Swart remarked, ‘We maintain a comprehensive portfolio of artist exchanges that link U.S. and Nigerian creatives.’

“Pipeline Vocal Project’s visit to Nigeria has exemplified American musical excellence, with their mentorship, collaboration, and performances motivating a new generation of Nigerian artists.

“We take pride in the fact that this concert is part of our extensive portfolio of artist exchanges that connect U.S. and Nigerian creatives. These interpersonal connections enhance the U.S. Mission’s initiatives to expand economic opportunities, deter illegal migration, and strengthen both our nations,” he stated.

Additionally, Lee McManis, U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Counsellor, emphasized that music possesses a unique capacity to unite individuals and promote mutual understanding.

“…We celebrate music’s distinctive ability to unite people, transcend borders, and encourage mutual understanding. This event is a component of our continuous efforts to forge stronger connections between the creative sectors in the United States and Nigeria. We have witnessed firsthand how Nigerian artists are impacting the U.S. music landscape, and vice versa.”

Furthermore, Lisa Hawkins, the founder of Pipeline Vocal Project, commented, “Our experience in Lagos and Abuja has been nothing less than inspiring. We have toured over 12 countries, yet Nigeria is exceptional. The remarkable drive and creativity present here are palpable. From our masterclasses with students and music jam sessions to our two concerts in Lagos and Abuja, we have observed how music can enhance cultural connections between the United States and Nigeria, fostering opportunities for significant collaboration.

ETIMES reports that the visit underscores the U.S. Mission’s ongoing commitment to commercial diplomacy by showcasing Nigeria’s creative industries to U.S. music and arts, recognising its power to drive mutual prosperity for both countries.
