Nigeria’s Army Chief Visits Borno, Urges Troops to Stay Vigilant

MAIDUGURI, BORNO — The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Operation HADIN KAI to remain highly alert and continue taking proactive measures in operations against terrorists in north-east Nigeria.

 

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Officer of JTF Operation HADIN KAI, on Thursday.

Shaibu’s visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri, Borno State, was aimed at assessing the security situation, evaluating operational effectiveness, and strengthening collaboration with other security stakeholders.

 

The Army Chief commended the resilience and dedication of the troops, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vigilance.

 

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has directed troops of Operation HADIN KAI to sustain vigilance, avoid complacency, and maintain an aggressive posture in ongoing operations against terrorists in the North East.

 

Shaibu also addressed theatre commanders on enhancing coordination and intelligence sharing, stressing that continued operational assertiveness is critical to denying terrorists freedom of action across the region.

 

During the visit, Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar briefed the Army Chief on ongoing operations and the challenges faced.

 

Governor Babagana Zulum congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, describing the selection as well-deserved.

 

The governor expressed confidence in the Army’s operations and encouraged troops not to be discouraged by isolated incidents.

 

General Shaibu, having held all major operational command positions in the theatre, has contributed significantly to reducing insurgency in the state,the governor said.

 

He also reaffirmed that the Borno State government and people remain committed to cooperating with the Nigerian Army and other security stakeholders.

 

Responding, Shaibu thanked the state for its support and assured the governor that the Nigerian Army remains committed to intensifying efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in Borno State and the entire North East.

 

The Army Chief was accompanied on the visit by senior officers from Army Headquarters.
