A fugitive linked to Italy’s powerful ‘Ndrangheta mafia has been arrested in Switzerland, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The suspect was arrested last Friday in Wetzikon, near Zurich, following an Italian arrest warrant, Switzerland’s Federal Office of Justice said. He is currently in custody, while Italy has until February 10 to submit a formal extradition request.
Reports said the suspect is connected to an international drug trafficking investigation launched by prosecutors in Catanzaro in 2022.
The ‘Ndrangheta, based in southern Italy’s Calabria region, is regarded as the country’s most powerful organised crime group, with strong control over cocaine trafficking across Europe.
