Kano Police Bust Major Arms-Dealers, Seize AK-47s

KANO POLICE SMASH ARMS-DEALING SYNDICATE; RECOVER THREE (3) AK-47 RIFLES AND OTHER EXHIBITS
In furtherance of the directives and sweeping reforms of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at tackling violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and streamlined tactical operations that gave birth to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), the Kano State Police Command has recorded major breakthrough in crime bursting.
Acting under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in the Command, conducted a sting operation around Dandinshe Quarters, Dala LGA, on 9th May, 2026 at about 1315hrs.
The operation led to the interception and arrest of one Umar Danladi Usman ‘m’, aged 35 years, of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a. The suspect was apprehended in possession of a Honda Accord vehicle, ash in colour, with registration number TFA 680 AA, fitted with tinted glass.
On-the-spot search of the suspect and vehicle yielded the following exhibits:
1. Three (3) fabricated AK-47 rifles, revolver type
2. Five (5) live cartridges
3. One (1) AK-47 empty shell
4. One (1) Police ID card suspected to be fake
5. Three (3) dangerous sharp jack knives
6. One (1) pair of jungle desert boots
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to procuring the fabricated rifles from Dutsin-Ma LGA, Katsina State. He is currently in police custody, and a discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and dismantle the supply network.
CP Bakori commends the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and precision in executing the operation. He states that the success reflects the impact of the IGP’s reforms in eliminating operational overlaps, enhancing inter-unit coordination, and empowering tactical teams for swift, intelligence-driven responses under direct command supervision.
The Commissioner reaffirms the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping, and all forms of violent crime. He urges residents to remain vigilant and to support the Police with timely, credible information to ensure a safer Kano.
