Flaws in US Report on Nigeria’s Procurement Exposed

Member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Philip Agbese, has rejected the 2025 Fiscal Transparency Report from the United States Department of State, which purportedly characterized Nigeria’s procurement process as antiquated and deficient in transparency.

In a discussion with journalists at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Agbese asserted that the report is fundamentally flawed.
“Our Open Contracting Portal provides real-time access to bids, and the Bureau of Public Procurement enforces rigorous tendering regulations. Contract awards under Tinubu adhere to the Procurement Act, which is subject to international scrutiny,” he remarked.

He further noted that the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has empowered citizens to report irregularities, and the oversight by lawmakers has validated their integrity.

Agbese, nonetheless, called on Nigerians to have faith in the administration, emphasizing that Bagudu is establishing a legacy of accountability.

He praised the administration led by President Bola Tinubu for its unwavering commitment to transparency and sustainable economic development, commending the exemplary leadership of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, for carefully strategizing Nigeria’s economy to align with the nation’s economic objectives.

Agbese hailed Bagudu’s visionary leadership and operational brilliance, crediting him with transformative reforms, adding that the minister’s integration of project verifications with expenditure data ensured every allocation is traceable, fostering public trust.

He pointed to Tinubu’s reforms, including subsidy removal and unified exchange rates, which he said had yielded a 3.46% GDP growth in Q3 2024 and rising foreign reserves, as proof of progress.

According to him, this is a government delivering results, not rhetoric, adding that by December, Nigerians should expect the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals needed to transform communities.

Agbese expressed unwavering confidence in the administration’s ability to steer Nigeria’s economic course.
“Bagudu’s data-driven policies and relentless execution are a beacon for progress. The Minister is not cutting corners; he is building a foundation for lasting prosperity.”

Appealing for patience, he assured citizens that Tinubu’s vision for growth at every level is still very much alive.
