Operatives from the Delta State Police Command have achieved a significant milestone in their efforts against criminal activities, resulting in the apprehension of a suspected arms dealer, his female associate, and the seizure of a substantial quantity of ammunition in Warri.
Bright Edafe, the Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this information in a signed statement provided to journalists in Warri on Saturday. He noted that, acting on reliable intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit in Abuja, members of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, under the leadership of Julius Robinson, detained a female suspect named Jamila Abubakar at the Conoil Filling Station along the Warri–Patani Road in Effurun.
“During her arrest, officers uncovered ₦550,000.00, believed to be proceeds from illegal arms dealings, carefully hidden in her bag. Her confession prompted the Police to initiate a follow-up operation that produced significant outcomes.
“Following this lead, the operatives conducted a raid in the Niger-Cat area of Warri on 22nd October 2025, resulting in the arrest of Ahmed Ibrahim (31), a well-known arms dealer from Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area.
“A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.
“Initial investigations indicated that Ibrahim is a primary supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the northern region and has been on the police radar for his involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery activities.
“He is also connected to the abduction and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, who was kidnapped on 17th May 2024 in the Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, despite her family paying a ransom of ₦4 million.”
In the meantime, the State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has praised the operatives for their commitment, characterizing the arrests as a “clear indication of the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and halt the flow of illegal arms in Delta State.”
Abaniwonda reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Police Control Room lines: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
The CP assured Deltans that the command remains steadfast in its duty to safeguard lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements face the full weight of the law.
