Faisal Salisu DambattaA bride-to-be and her bridesmaids were abducted early Sunday when suspected bandits attacked Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, just hours before her wedding ceremony.
The attackers were said to have invaded the community around 1:30 a.m., kidnapping the bride-to-be, her friends, and eight other residents. All the abducted victims were women except one man, while one person sustained injuries during the attack.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the incident as devastating, noting that the wedding was slated for Sunday morning.
“We are saddened by the development. The girl’s wedding was supposed to take place this morning, but she was abducted along with her friends who were to serve as her bridesmaids,” he said.
He also lamented the slow response from security agencies, claiming operatives arrived an hour after the bandits had left.
The Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident, saying details of the attack were still being gathered.
