According to the spokesperson of the 3 Brigade, Major Babatunde Zubairu, troops operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Yankwada were mobilised on a fighting patrol to intercept the criminals.

Major Zubairu said the troops made contact with the bandits at Unguwan Dogo and Unguwan Tudu communities, where a fierce exchange of gunfire took place.

“The bandits were overwhelmed by superior firepower and were forced to retreat in disarray towards Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State,” he said.

During the operation, one kidnap victim, identified as Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, 38, was rescued with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The troops also recovered three motorcycles, two mobile phones, and an undisclosed number of cattle believed to have been rustled and abandoned by the fleeing bandits.

Major Zubairu urged residents of the affected communities to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat banditry and kidnapping in the region.
