Asiya Muhammad NasirThe Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has confirmed an attack on its officers by suspected armed drug traffickers in Akokoro area of Iwoye, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred on Thursday at about 4:00 p.m. when customs officers, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a 12-tyre truck suspected to be conveying illicit drugs and other prohibited items.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Zakaria Chado, two officers sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and are currently receiving intensive medical care.
He said the suspects exploited multiple barricades in the area to escape with the intercepted truck, adding that investigations had commenced to track and arrest those involved.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Afeni, condemned the attack and assured that the incident would not deter the service from combating smuggling and ensuring national security.
