Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has said that many of those involved in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo boys,” are actually intelligent young Nigerians who need proper guidance and opportunities — not condemnation.
Speaking at the “Golden Health” conference held in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi explained that the creativity and ingenuity displayed by some of these youths could be redirected towards innovation and national development if properly harnessed.
He stated that he returned from the United Kingdom specifically to attend the event, which focused on youth reformation and ethical leadership. Obi warned that Nigeria would continue to struggle if corruption and dishonesty remain celebrated in society.
According to him, “Money is not real wealth,” emphasizing that true wealth lies in building people and communities through education, poverty reduction, and creating opportunities for others.
He urged Nigerian youths to embrace hard work, integrity, and vision, stressing that no country develops through miracles, but through the effort of committed and visionary citizens.
Obi concluded by calling on the government and leaders at all levels to uphold justice and fairness, adding that Nigeria’s progress depends on unity and sincerity of purpose — not ethnic or religious favoritism.
