Manchester City struggled to respond as Arsenal continued to threaten, with Phil Foden receiving a booking in the 24th minute.
Arsenal doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Kai Havertz finished off a move created by Christos Tzolis to make it 2-0.
Calafiori was shown a yellow card six minutes before the interval as Arsenal maintained control.
