Benjamin Omale, chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State, urged those undecided to follow Ambassador Terhemen Tarzoor’s lead and collaborate with the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, to foster development state.
Omale stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital and made available to journalists while commending Tarzoor’s declaration to support Alia’s re-election bid.
Omale who expressed happiness with the decision of the ambassador said, “The league of endorsement and wide acceptance of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who has reengineered governance in the state since the return of democracy in 1999 with massive road infrastructure, flyovers and Underpass projects, flood and erosion control intervention, health, education and human capital development, is attracting men of good conscience to build a better Benue, a job Ambassador Terhemen Tarzoor’s coming, will help contribute.”
Tarzoor, a former speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in 2015 but lost the governorship election to Samuel Ortom and was later appointed ambassador to Namibia by the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tarzoor had earlier declared his decision to support the administration of Alia, citing visible transformation and a genuine commitment to service across the state.
He also urged people of the state to support the governor’s ongoing developmental agenda.
He told journalists that the current direction of the state under Alia reflects the aspirations he held for Benue a decade ago.
“Today, I find immense joy and reassurance in seeing those same aspirations reflected so vividly in the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia,” Taezoor said.
He added, “The renewed hope, the smiles, and the palpable satisfaction among our people speak volumes of a government working with sincerity, accountability, and a clear sense of purpose.”
The former governorship candidate highlighted the Alia administration’s focus on massive infrastructural strides, urban renewal in the capital city, and prudent management of state affairs, the quality of road infrastructure, diversification of the economy, and the governor’s steadfast commitment to workers’ welfare as reasons for identifying with him.
The APC chairman praised Tarzoor for the decision to back the administration of Alia.
He said, “Tarzoor has taken the best decision to quit the camp of those who are criticising the administration and join hands with the governor after realising that he is performing excellently well.
“Tarzoor’s decision to join the administration of Father Hyacinth Alia is a testament that the administration is delivering dividends of democracy to the good people of Benue State in all areas of governance.”
Omale said that Alia’s achievements in the areas of good roads, infrastructure, quality health, quality education, electrification, agriculture, empowerment and other areas of governance are in the public domain for everyone to see.
While promising that the party will extend its hands of fellowship, love and support to Tarzoor for identifying with the administration of the governor, Omale said that the party believes in collective efforts by everyone, groups and people of the state in a bid to develop the state.
