A group championing good governance in Oyo State, the Concerned Youth Movement, CYM, has declared that the approval of loans by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly without consultation with their constituents will jeopardise their return in the 2027 general elections.

The group made this declaration in a statement signed by its chairman, Pastor Tayo Adigun, and Secretary, Alhaji Olaide Kobomoje.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Friday.

ETIMES reports that a lawmaker, Ibraheem Shittu, was the first to raise the alarm that the Oyo State House of Assembly had approved a loan of N300 billion for Governor Seyi Makinde.

Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said the loan was approved at an emergency meeting while the House was in recess.

CYM, in its reaction, noted that the incessant approval of loans by the lawmakers would jeopardise their chances of returning in 2027.

The group, in the statement, said that approving loans without due consultation with constituents amounted to a slap in the face of the electorate.

It alleged that the lawmakers had mortgaged the future of the state.

The group further called on elders in the state to prevail upon the lawmakers to ensure they did not completely ruin the state.

According to the CYM statement: “What is the interest of the lawmakers in the loan? Why is it their habit to always approve loans for the government without consulting with their constituents? They should watch their actions in government, because a day will come for them to give reports of their activities to the electorate.

“We want to appeal to the political and religious leaders in Oyo State to warn the state legislators from turning the future of their children upside down.”
