Contractors Beware: Umahi’s Deadline Warning to Avoid EFCC

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has issued a warning to contractors responsible for federal roads, stating that they must adhere to the agreed deadlines or risk facing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

Umahi delivered this warning on Saturday during an inspection of various sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano road project, as well as the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The Minister indicated that he would call upon anti-corruption agencies to investigate contractors working on sections of the Abuja–Lokoja highway who, despite having received some mobilization funds, have made less than 20 percent progress on their projects.

Regarding the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, he remarked, “We have informed the president that the completion timeline for the project is 14 months for sections 1 and 3 and 2. For sections 1 and 3, a total of 118 kilometers has been allocated at a total cost of N252 billion.

Concerning the Abuja to Lokoja road, the Minister noted that the length is approximately 230 kilometers multiplied by two, emphasizing that the total length is about 460 kilometers.

Umahi cautioned the contractor in charge of the project that if significant progress is not made by November, the work will be halted.
