The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked a social media report claiming that schools across the country have been directed to shut down from November 24, 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry described the circulating report as false and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.
The disclaimer, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information from official government channels.
The ministry emphasized that only communications issued by the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, or recognised security agencies should be regarded as authentic.
The clarification comes shortly after the Federal Government ordered the temporary closure of 41 federal secondary schools located in high-risk areas, following recent abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Several states—including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger—have also shut down some schools in response to rising insecurity. In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas directed all public and private schools to immediately deboard their students amid security concerns.
