Jigawa Council Renames Khadijah University for Progress

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the renaming of Khadijah University, Majia, to Jigawa State University of Medical and Applied Health Sciences.
This decision was made during the council’s meeting on December 24, 2025, and is pending approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
According to a press statement from the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, the renaming aligns with the current administration’s commitment to expanding access to medical and applied health sciences education for the youth of Jigawa State.
The initiative aims to equip students with the skills necessary for careers in medicine, healthcare, and related fields, addressing workforce demands in the health sector.
The state government believes that the university’s new identity will enhance its profile, attract high-quality faculty and students, and bolster Jigawa State’s contributions to national healthcare efforts.
The administration has assured stakeholders of its commitment to complying with regulatory requirements and providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure quality education, furthering its vision of empowering youth and promoting sustainable development through education.
