Grammy-winning artist Justin Bieber has generated significant buzz on social media following the release of two clips showcasing him enjoying Nigerian singer Fireboy DML’s popular track “Playboy.”
The pop sensation, renowned for hits such as “Peaches” and his remix of Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence,” shared the initial video on X and Instagram on Saturday.
This clip, reportedly filmed during The League basketball game in Los Angeles on October 23, depicted Bieber alongside his team, SKYLRK, competing against Nahmias.
The video featured Fireboy’s 2022 Afrobeats anthem “Playboy” as the background music while Bieber confidently made shots on the court.
A second video, posted by another user known as #AsakyGRN, allegedly captured Bieber mouthing the lyrics to the same song, clearly singing along to the line, “Shawty wanna play with a big boy like me.”
The videos rapidly gained traction, amassing over 90,000 likes and igniting discussions among fans. While some commended Bieber for his support of African music, others questioned whether the track was performed live or added in post-production.
One user, #jbanj, remarked, “Shout out to Fireboy for the background music — ‘Playboy’ never misses.”
The clip also seemed to relate to one of Bieber’s recent livestreams, which was uploaded on Saturday, where he spoke about faith, hate, and personal development. However, the viral moment featuring Fireboy was not included in the official episode of the stream.
On Instagram, fans expressed their enthusiasm. User #stevoskys noted: “This is proof #fireboydml is acknowledged and respected beyond Nigeria.”
Fireboy DML, who is signed to YBNL Nation and Empire, released “Playboy” as part of his third studio album of the same name in August 2022. The song has become one of the hallmark Afrobeats tracks of the decade and continues to gain international acclaim.
