Kwara Moves Against Street Begging Linked to Crime

Government steps up enforcement after suspected bandit reportedly posed as beggar in community

The Kwara State Government has intensified its crackdown on street begging following the arrest of a suspected criminal who allegedly disguised as a beggar in Igbaja area.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Mariam Nnafatima Imam, disclosed the development during an enforcement operation in Ilorin, warning that street begging could be exploited for criminal activities.

She said the government remains committed to rehabilitation and social support but will not allow criminal elements to use street begging as cover. Authorities also urged residents of Kwara State to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies
