PDP’s New Leadership: Turaki and Wike Factions Set to Clash at Wadata Plaza

Kabiru Turaki, the newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that his leadership will hold its inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The former Minister of Special Duties made this known to journalists after meeting with the FCT Police Commissioner, Dantawaye Miller, to inform security officials about the upcoming meeting.

Turaki said the meeting would bring together PDP governors, members of the National Assembly, the Board of Trustees (BoT), state chairmen, and other key stakeholders.

However, the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, is also the venue where the Muhammed Abdulrahman-led faction has scheduled NEC and BoT meetings on the same day. This faction is backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

At the PDP national convention in Ibadan over the weekend, Wike, Abdulrahman, Anyanwu, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and seven others were expelled from the party. Despite this, Anyanwu issued notices for the NEC and BoT meetings, claiming the expulsions were invalid due to existing court orders halting the convention.

Turaki distanced himself from the meetings organized by Abdulrahman’s faction, insisting that those involved are no longer party members.

“We have seen notices for the BoT and NEC meetings from people who are no longer in the party. The decision taken at the national convention overrides any other decision, and these individuals are no longer members,” Turaki said.

He added that the faction’s actions have been reported to the police to prevent any breach of peace.

Turaki emphasized that the party headquarters remains under the control of the new leadership, and they will proceed with the meeting without any disruption.

“We will go to our headquarters, Wadata House, to carry out our official functions, and if anyone tries to stop us, we will stand firm,” he said.

Turaki confirmed that the meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with circulars already issued.
