The Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, has said that the All Progressives Congress has mapped out plans to mobilise at least 10 million votes from the South-west region for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed in a Monday statement signed by the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Office of the Senate Leader.

Bamidele, who also serves as Chairman of the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council, said the target would be achieved through aggressive voter mobilisation and participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration.

He spoke on Monday in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of the 57-member governorship campaign council for the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the Senate leader, the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State would serve as a referendum on the performance of the incumbent governor.

He predicted that the election would be “a walkover” for the APC, citing what he described as unprecedented achievements recorded by the Oyebanji administration.

“The June 20 election will be a referendum to affirm and confirm the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ekiti State.

“As a party of conviction and vision, we have already set a target ahead of the 2027 elections. We have designed a mobilisation plan to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the six states of the South-west alone,” Bamidele said.

He urged party leaders and members to intensify mobilisation efforts by encouraging residents to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.

“With the future elections drawing closer by the day, we need to mobilise our members, neighbours and relations not just to register as new voters, but also collect their permanent voter cards so that they can exercise suffrage in our support in the future elections,” he said.

Bamidele noted that although Ekiti has a population of about 3.8 million people, only 987,647 residents were registered voters as of 2023, stressing the need to increase voter registration by at least 50 per cent before the exercise ends in August 2026.

He therefore called on party members to embark on grassroots mobilisation across communities.

“As we approach the 2027 elections, we must go house-to-house, street-to-street, and community-to-community to mobilise our brothers and sisters, our fathers and mothers, to enrol for the Continuous Voter Registration,” he added.

Bamidele also promised to lead the governorship campaign with dedication to ensure the APC secures a landslide victory in the upcoming election.

“We must work together as one indivisible party and approach the election in the spirit of harmony, oneness and unity. This is the path to our victory,” he said.

Responding, Governor Biodun Oyebanji thanked the Senate leader for his support and commitment to the development of the state.

The governor said his re-election campaign would focus on policies, programmes and development plans rather than personal attacks.

Oyebanji also urged candidates of other political parties to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
