The Super Eagles of Nigeria have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after their flight was forced to make an emergency return to Luanda, Angola, due to a cracked windscreen.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the incident occurred on Saturday while the team was returning home after their 2–1 win over Lesotho in Polokwane, South Africa.
The ValueJet aircraft carrying the team had departed Luanda after a refuelling stop but was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff for safety checks. The players and officials were delayed for several hours before another flight was arranged.
The team eventually departed Angola and landed safely at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on Sunday morning.
The Super Eagles are expected to resume training immediately ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Benin Republic on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 14 points, behind Benin Republic and South Africa. The Eagles must win their final match and hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda to qualify automatically for the World Cup.
