Survivors of the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State have recounted how the Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, was killed and 25 female students abducted.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m., with some students surviving by hiding in rooms while the kidnappers fled into the forest with the remaining girls. Parents and teachers described the shock and anxiety over the missing children.
The school hostel matron, Hajiya Maryam Bello, said the attackers attempted to break her door but she survived. Several students also hid to escape, while parents found their children terrified.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, ordered troops to conduct an intensive search and rescue operation to recover the abducted students. Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, assured that everything possible would be done to bring them home safely. A joint security team is currently conducting patrols and surveillance across forests in Kebbi and Zamfara.
The National Assembly expressed concern over continued attacks on schools and called for increased protection for educational institutions. UNICEF, the Nigerian Bar Association, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu condemned the attack and urged security forces to rescue the students immediately.
Parents and the community continue to pray while security operations are underway, hoping for the safe return of the abducted girls.
