In anticipation of the International Teacher’s Day celebration on October 5, 2025, Wema Bank has unveiled the #WemaAt80TeachersDay Challenge, a program aimed at honoring and rewarding educators whose influence has significantly impacted generations of learners.
This year’s initiative encourages students and alumni throughout Nigeria to share an 80-second video on any social media platform (such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or TikTok) narrating the story of a memorable teacher whose impact has resonated with numerous students in their school over the years.
Participants are required to mention the teacher’s name, the school they represent, tag Wema Bank, and include the hashtags #WemaAt80TeachersDay and #TeachersWithALegacyOfImpact in their posts to join in the celebration.
Individuals of any age, including those who graduated many years ago, are welcome to participate. They can pay tribute to any teacher they choose, whether from primary, secondary, or higher education institutions.
Commenting on this initiative, Wema Bank’s MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni, stated: “Teachers are the silent architects of every nation’s future. Their perseverance, sacrifices, and commitment have nurtured generations of innovators, leaders, and change agents. At Wema Bank, we recognize the importance of honoring these educators, not just through words, but with acknowledgment that brings their names and legacies into the limelight. The #WemaAt80TeachersDay Challenge is our method of celebrating them and motivating Nigerians to express their gratitude to their teachers.”
The Teachers’ Day Challenge has become a cherished tradition at Wema Bank. Over the past two years, the Bank has honored ten teachers from across Nigeria, distributing a total of N13,000,000 in cash prizes and gifts to those educators who have shown exceptional commitment to shaping their students’ futures.
This year’s campaign will once again select 10 outstanding teachers from all submissions, with three receiving substantial cash prizes and two others being awarded complimentary gifts.
The primary aim of the challenge is to ensure that every teacher in Nigeria feels appreciated, regardless of whether they are among the prize winners or not.
According to Abimbola Agbejule, the Head of Corporate Sustainability at Wema Bank, this year’s edition holds special significance as it aligns with Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary, a landmark that emphasizes the Bank’s long-standing legacy of empowering individuals and communities.
“At 80, Wema Bank is not only celebrating its own legacy but also honoring those whose influence has created countless others.
“Teachers are the foundation of every success story, and this challenge serves as our way of giving them the recognition they deserve.”
“The #WemaAt80TeachersDay challenge transcends mere rewards; it is a movement aimed at igniting gratitude, storytelling, and public appreciation for the educators who have shaped lives and left lasting impressions on generations of students.
“Through this initiative, Wema Bank invites every Nigerian to take a moment to reflect and express their gratitude to those who have taught, mentored, and guided them on their journeys. Teachers are the builders of our nation, molding the minds and character of the future generation.”
The #WemaAt80TeachersDay Challenge highlights the Bank’s dedication to acknowledging individuals and institutions that contribute to our shared future. By celebrating the legacies of teachers, Wema Bank reinforces its own legacy of empowering individuals, supporting education, and advocating for sustainability for many years to come.
