Zulum Calls for Unity Against Insurgents in Border Areas

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged residents of border communities not to allow Boko Haram insurgents to drive them from their homes, commending their resilience and unity in the face of recent attacks.

Speaking during a visit to Banki in Bama Local Government Area on Sunday — following insurgent assaults on both military and civilian locations — Governor Zulum expressed sympathy with the affected residents and praised their courage.

“I came here to salute your bravery. Your determination to remain in your town despite threats is inspiring,” he said. “We must not allow a few bad elements to displace a community whose economy and businesses have been thriving.”

The governor assured residents that stronger security measures would be put in place to safeguard Banki and its surroundings. He pledged additional support to youth volunteers, hunters, and vigilantes helping to protect the border region.

As part of his post-conflict recovery program, Zulum also announced the planned resettlement of three communities — Kumshe, Tarmu’a, and Bula Yobe — all located in Bama Local Government Area. “Our people deserve a dignified life, and we are committed to restoring that,” he said.

Governor Zulum further revealed that rehabilitation of the Banki road had begun, with 30 trucks already deployed for the project. He also encouraged residents, especially young people, to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise to strengthen civic engagement.

While addressing traders at the Banki Market, the governor appealed for continued cooperation with security agencies and urged vigilance to sustain peace and economic activity in the area.
