Arsenal must find their rhythm again as they travel to Lisbon to face Sporting in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tonight.

Key Talking PointsArsenal Team NewsSporting Team News

The Gunners’ hopes of a historic quadruple have been curtailed, with recent defeats to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final and Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final leaving them with only a Premier League title challenge and a Champions League bid to focus on.

Despite the setbacks, Arsenal remain well-placed to lift the Premier League trophy and are still favourites to claim the Champions League for the first time. However, their recent dip in form will be tested by a strong Sporting side, who have lost just once in their last 16 matches and demolished Bodo/Glimt in the round of 16 to reach this stage.

Key Talking Points

Return of Viktor Gyokeres: The match will mark Gyokeres’ first return to his former club, nine months after his controversial move to Arsenal last summer.

Date and Kick-Off: The clash kicks off at 8pm BST tonight, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Estadio José Alvalade in Lisbon.

Arsenal Team News

Injuries continue to hamper Arsenal’s campaign. Gabriel picked up a knee knock against Southampton but is expected to be fit to start alongside Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard. However, Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber remain sidelined.

Piero Hincapie and Eberechi Eze will both miss this match, as will Mikel Merino, who underwent surgery on a foot injury in February.

Sporting Team News

Sporting’s physios have a relatively light workload. Geovany Quenda, who will join Chelsea this summer, is out with an injury, as is ex-West Ham winger Luis Guilherme. Giorgi Kochorashvili and Ricardo Mangas complete the absentee list.

Midfielder Morten Hjulmand, famously sporting an Arsenal crest tattoo on his left shoulder, is suspended for the first leg.

With their Champions League ambitions hanging in the balance, Arsenal will be desperate to end their losing streak and prove they can still compete with Europe’s best. Sporting, meanwhile, will be eager to capitalize on Arsenal’s recent stumbles and secure a strong advantage ahead of the return leg.
