Armed men suspected to be bandits have kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammed Samaila Bagudo, on Friday, shortly after observing prayers at a mosque in Bagudo town.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed Bagudo at night and whisked the lawmaker away to an unknown destination.
Abubakar disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, had deployed a joint search and rescue team comprising police officers, soldiers, and vigilante members to ensure the safe release of the abducted Deputy Speaker.
Following this unfortunate incident, a strong rescue team has been mobilised, and they are currently combing the surrounding bushes and forests to rescue him unhurt,he stated.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the security agencies were working tirelessly to ensure the victim’s safe return.
He further reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
