The Borno State Government has assured the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), of its support towards the achievement of its mandate.

According to statement issued by Lieutenant Iweha Ikedichi Ag. Chief Military Public Information Officer the State Governor, Babagana Umura Zulum, conveyed the assurance, when he hosted the Force Commander (FC) MNJTF Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, in Borno State, as part of his familiarization visit, having assumed command of the MNJTF on 13 November 2025.

The Governor, while congratulating the FC on his appointment as Force Commander, thanked security agencies for their support the State Government which is the basis for peace and development Borno State continues to enjoy.

He recalled previous support from the State Government to security agencies to enable them carry out their tasks.

He equally recalled the support of the Borno State Government towards the success of Operation Lake Sanity 1 & 2, MNJTF’s flagship operation.

He conveyed his joy that the FC is no nonsense, dedicated, proactive senior officer with high integrity whom he believes will move the MNJTF to greater height.

He further requested the FC to take operations deeper into the Islands/tumbus in the Lake Chad, describing it as ungoverned spaces where the terrorists hibernate during the heat of military operations, only to regroup and continue to cause mayhem on innocent civilians and communities.

He also called for deployments on the Islands, especially on the Nigerian side to deny terrorists freedom of action and safe havens from where they spring operations.

The Governor assured the FC of the continuous support of the Borno State Government despite challenging demands on scarce resources of the State Government.

Earlier, the Force Commander, Major General ST Audu, stated that he was in the State to see the State Governor as a major stakeholder of the Lake Chad Basin Commission Governors Forum.

He appreciated the previous support of the State Government towards operations of the MNJTF and called for continous support.

He stated that he has mapped out a strategy to address the challenges associated with the Boko Haram terrorist and other non state actors by taking the battle to their enclave.

Maj Gen Audu assured the State Government that he will do the needful in line with the Grand Strategic direction for the MNJTF achieve its mandate of proving peace and security in the lake chad region.

He further disclosed that end was in sight of the challenges of the Boko Haram terrorists group.
