Police Arrest Three Suspected Armed Robbers In Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout, Ibadan.

The suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division received a distress call reporting an armed robbery in the area, the command said in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, the police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene after receiving the report. The officers subsequently confronted the suspects, leading to their arrest.

The suspects were identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.

The statement said, “The incident occurred on Thursday, 8th October 2026, at about 9:15 p.m., when the DPO Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that some armed men were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings around the location. Acting promptly on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the team confronted the suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as Sunday Obasola, male, aged 29; Kayode Bamikole, male, aged 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, male, aged 23. The arrests also resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in or connected with the criminal activity.”

The command said the operation resulted in the recovery of “one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol, and one live cartridge.”

The police added that the recovered items had been secured as exhibits to support further investigation.

During preliminary investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other persons during their alleged operations.

“Consequently, the three suspects remain in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.

The statement quoted him as reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through “prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing, and sustained operations against criminal elements.”

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the police.

“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State,” the statement added.
