A professional hairstylist, Sebastine Timothy, has been killed by suspected armed robbers in the Satellite Town area of Lagos. The incident occurred on Sunday night along Olasanoye Street, shortly after he returned home from work. The attackers reportedly stole his belongings, forced him to transfer money from his bank account, and then shot him in the head.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the victim died on his way to the hospital, while his family later took his body to the morgue. She added that it is unclear whether the fatal head injury was caused by a gunshot or a machete and that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
An online platform, Confra Naija, which monitors cult-related activities, linked the attack to a dispute between the Eiye and Aye confraternities. According to the report, the attackers had initially targeted Timothy’s brother, but failing to find him, they turned on Timothy, forcing him to transfer money before shooting him.
Friends and neighbors expressed shock and grief on social media, describing Timothy as hardworking and dedicated. One Facebook user, Glory Hope, he said :
He was such a hardworking guy. Why did this happen to you? A very good barber. I’ve been so sad since hearing the news. Rest in peace.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, who have called on the police to increase patrols and security to protect lives and property from armed robbers and cult-related attacks. This is not the first case; in October, PUNCH Metro reported that armed robbers attacked a barbershop in Cele Nica, Ojo, killing two teenagers, Chijindu and Akorede.
