A major wave of defection has reshaped the political landscape of Benue State, as hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Labour Party (LP) from Vandeikya Local Government Area, the home constituency of Governor Hyacinth Alia, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The new members were formally received on Saturday during a grand rally, where the APC State Chairman, Benjamin Omale, declared that the mass defection signified that no formidable opposition remained in the area.
Among the notable defectors were Dominic Akaaha, a former governorship aspirant under the PDP, and Cletus Akwaya, a former Commissioner for Information in Benue State.
According to Omale, the defection was driven by the public’s satisfaction with Governor Alia’s performance and the renewed confidence in his administration’s delivery of good governance and development across Benue State.
The defection we witnessed today is clear evidence that the people of this area believe in Governor Alia’s leadership and in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He added that the development reflects the people’s trust in the APC’s leadership, urging other politicians across the state to join hands in promoting unity and progress in Benue.
The event was attended by several prominent politicians, party leaders, and supporters from different parts of the state, where it was declared that Vandeikya Local Government now stands firmly behind Governor Alia and the APC.
This is a historic day in Benue politics. Governor Alia now enjoys overwhelming support from his home constituency,”
the party chairman concluded.
