The Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria (PBAN) has dismissed claims that the price of a 50kg bag of flour has dropped to between N35,000 and N40,000, describing the report as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Emmanuel Onyoh, the association said the viral social media post was “malicious and highly deceptive,” adding that it was aimed at inciting the public against bread makers.
According to PBAN, the current price of a 50kg bag of flour ranges between N55,000 and N62,000, depending on the brand and location of purchase. The association stressed that there has been no significant reduction in flour prices that would warrant a drop in the price of bread.
PBAN acknowledged a marginal reduction of about N2,000 per bag, but described it as insignificant when compared to the rising cost of production and other operational challenges faced by bakers across the country.
The association reiterated that bread makers are struggling to remain in business amid escalating costs and urged the public to disregard misleading information capable of creating unnecessary tension between consumers and producers.
