Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Joint Task Force for the North West have neutralised a terrorist and destroyed a secret medical facility in a series of coordinated strikes against criminal networks between January 21 and 22.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Operation’s Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, and posted on the official X handle of the Nigerian Army late Thursday.
According to the statement, troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working alongside the Department of State Services, conducted a fighting patrol in Sokoto State, where they killed one terrorist as others fled with gunshot wounds.
“Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force and DSS assets on fighting patrol engaged terrorists in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area.
“During the encounter, troops neutralised one of the terrorists as others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles,” the statement partly read.
In a separate operation, troops from the 1 Brigade and the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team reportedly targeted a hideout in the Bingi Forest.
Acting on credible reports that injured terrorists were receiving clandestine treatment in the area, the troops were reported to have discovered and destroyed a makeshift medical facility.
The statement added, “Troops from 1 Brigade, alongside Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, swiftly acted on credible intel that injured terrorists were receiving treatment in Bingi Forest.
“The troops discovered and destroyed a makeshift medical facility of the terrorists, dealing a significant blow to the terrorists’ support system and showcasing the troops’ effective operational response.”
In the statement, Captain Adewusi reiterated the “unwavering determination and responsiveness” of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to decisively degrade terrorist networks and restore peace and security across the North West.
PUNCH Online reported on Thursday that troops of Operation Hadin Kai similarly foiled a Boko haram ambush, neutralising ten terriorists including two of their senior commanders identified as Basulhu and Ubaida, along the Sambisa and Mandara Mountains axis of Borno state.
