Tinubu Describes Late Ex-CJN as Pillar of Justice, Rule of Law

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.

Justice Tanko, 71, a native of Bauchi State, died on Tuesday in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He served as Chief Justice of Nigeria between 2019 and 2022.

President Tinubu described the late jurist as an outstanding legal mind, a principled administrator, and a committed public servant who devoted the greater part of his life to the advancement of justice and the strengthening of Nigeria’s judiciary.

The President noted that Justice Tanko’s career on the Bench, which culminated in his appointment as CJN, was distinguished by integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

According to Tinubu, the former Chief Justice made remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s legal system, adding that his impact would remain enduring, particularly among members of the legal profession he mentored.

The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, members of the Bar and the Bench, as well as the government and people of Bauchi State.

He prayed that Almighty Allah grant the departed jurist eternal rest and comfort all those he left behind.
